POKOTABI / PLACES WORTH A DETOUR
CHICCO
Tucked into the residential streets of Koenji Minami, Italian eatery CHICCO pairs herb- and anchovy-marinated fried chicken, freshly baked pizzas, pasta, and dipping fries with an extensive wine list.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
CHICCO's signature fried chicken, marinated in anchovies, garlic, and basil before being fried, brings out the savory aromas of wing tips and drumettes—a dish practically made for a drink. Chunky hand-cut fries arrive crisp on the outside and tender within, ready to be paired with dipping sauces ranging from anchovy-garlic mayonnaise to Parmigiano and cracked pepper. Set in a quiet neighborhood pocket of Koenji Minami, the restaurant encourages starting a meal with these thoughtful small plates.
When hunger calls for something heartier, freshly baked pizzas and pastas reliably hit the mark. The kitchen highlights quality ingredients and distinct sauces, from a classic Margherita balancing tomato sweetness with molten mozzarella, to an earthy shrimp and mushroom pizza. Pasta options range from a rich, savory Bolognese to a luscious Gorgonzola and mushroom creation.
Bottles lined along the shelves reveal a well-chosen wine selection, complemented by Italian Birra Moretti and house-made sangria. Seating extends from a comfortable dining room out to a terrace that welcomes dogs. Whether gathering with friends, sharing a relaxed meal with a pet, or stopping in for a drink after work, CHICCO offers an easygoing neighborhood welcome.
